June & July News update
Well here we are at the end of another month and I’ve only just realised that I didn’t post a news bulletin for June!! Its been very hot here and there has been so much happening but, here goes with a double month edition!
June:
We were in a period of change during this month and things certainly happened fast. Having our first gig at Dannys Restaurant bar cancelled due to a family bereavement was a disappointment but our thoughts were with our good friends Martine and Danny at that time. New dates in August and early October have been arranged for Dannys bar. We had the change of venue at El Chaparral too. After more than two years, circumstances out of our hands mean’t that we chose to give up the Thursday night gig at Bar carmen. We were disappointed at this happening but, life moves on and we were approached by two other venues on the block to go there instead. We chose Bonanza bar & Restaurant and made our first appearance there on 30th June. . We also had another great night at La Padrera in Bigastro in June and hope to go back there soon although no further dates are in at the time of writing.
June also saw us doing our final Saturday of the year at PALS Club in La Siesta and as usual, this friendly club made us very welcome. We also travelling to La Romano (in the mountains) where we did a great gig for The Barney Dogs charity. It was great fun and the fully sold out event was a big success for the charity and especially the organisers.
July:
Well, this really was a fast moving and full month. We appeared at The Arches in Los Alcazares again at the beginning of the month and the gig was outside which was great fun. We also had a private 65th birthday party in a fabulous club venue in Albatera and a new venue in Campasol (The Bali-Hi Restaurant) on the 15th. Both were a grea success. My daughter Lisa, Darren and four of my fabulous grandchildren paid a visit from 9th to 26th and this gave access to the other Elvis act billed in our three gig tour known as the “Double Elvis” show. Darren Price, who met my daughter a few years ago when we wre working together in the UK, was here in the Costas and ready to star in the sell out tour taking in Casa Ventura, Los Arcos and Rocajuna. They were really great events that everyone enjoyed and we will be repeating this tour again next year.
We had our annual Edward Trust charity hog roast on 18th and as always this was a great occasion for the organisers. We were also asked to do a special event at Hoggies on Friday 23rd to help Julie and the family celebrate her fathers birthday which they do every year postumously. We were priviledged to be asked. We also did Hoggies on two Sundays in both June and July which we really enjoyed as it’s such a great venue run by really nice people. At the end of the month we met some other really great people. Firstly with Nia and Henry at Nia bar / restaurant in Los Locos where we appeared for the first time. This Belgian / Dutch run venue is incredibly friendly and it was a pleasure to work there with them. We have three further bookings there this year now and are really looking forward to them. On Friday, we go to a new venue run by people that we know very well when we used to sing at their old premises (now closed) in Los Alcazares. Sizzling Punjab have opened a new restaurant in Pourto Mazarron and they have asked us to do every Friday we can this summer (four in total) The first is Friday and we are very excited about travelling to see them and do the show there. Of Course, we cannot forget to mention the fabulous Casa Nicolas restaurant that we appear at every Saturday. They are just fantastic to work with and generally, we have great nights there. Nicolas sadly lost his Father which resulted in one gig being cancelled and our thoughts went out to him, Shannon and the family.
Now, we look forward to August and what a month it’s shaping up to be too! We have a lot of bookings during the month including the launch of the “King and Country” shows / line dance and the first of the five year end “Ricky Valance 50th anniversary in music” tour dates. More on this at the end of August.
